IT Manager
Build the function. Own the stack.

Enterprise AI Platform · San Francisco, CA

San Francisco, CA (Dogpatch) Full-time · On-site 5 days/week $150,000 – $200,000 + Equity Series A · ~75 employees

A fast-growing AI platform serving Fortune 500 clients, processing over 40,000 tickets per day across voice, chat, and email. The company recently closed a $61M Series A and has scaled from roughly 15 to 75+ employees in under a year.

Culture is built around speed, first-principles thinking, and pragmatic security — the goal is always to build what matters, skip what doesn't, and never over-engineer the process.

"This is the company's first dedicated IT hire. No inherited playbooks, no siloed processes — just high-impact work at an AI company serving some of the world's largest enterprises."

You'll own the entire IT and security function — building it from scratch and defining what gets built versus skipped. You'll operate as a team of one with full authority over the function: tooling selection, compliance, vendor management, security posture, and day-to-day support.

This is the kind of role that shapes how a company operates at scale. The decisions you make in the next 12 months will define IT infrastructure and security culture for years to come.

  • Own device management across a Mac/Apple fleet end-to-end: MDM, provisioning, disk encryption, patch management, and onboarding/offboarding workflows
  • Administer Google Workspace and the full SaaS & identity stack — SSO, MFA, SCIM provisioning — and enforce least-privilege access with regular access reviews
  • Stand up and run the help desk and day-to-day IT support: build the workflows, select the tooling, and keep employees unblocked
  • Maintain security hygiene across the company: MFA, encryption, access reviews, application inventory, and install/allow-listing policies
  • Own a right-sized compliance program (SOC 2 or similar): policy authorship, control implementation, evidence collection, and audit support — without over-building
  • Secure and tune local network infrastructure: firewalls, VPN, Wi-Fi, segmentation, and office network performance
  • Manage IT vendors and/or external MSPs — scope what to outsource, select partners, and own SLA relationships
  • Evaluate, procure, and manage IT and security tooling; own the budget for the function
Required
  • 3+ years of hands-on IT/security experience at a startup
  • Built or supported a SOC 2 / ISO 27001 compliance program
  • Managed IT vendors/MSPs and owned SLA relationships
  • Led security posture decisions — not just help desk or IT ops
  • Network security experience: firewalls, VPNs, Wi-Fi, segmentation
Must-Have
  • Managed Mac/Apple fleet end-to-end — MDM, provisioning, patching
  • First or second IT hire at a high-growth startup, or built the IT/security function from the ground up
  • Google Workspace admin: SSO, MFA, and SCIM provisioning
👍 Nice to Have
  • Incident response and vulnerability management experience
  • Relevant certifications: Security+, CISSP, or CISM
  • Scripting/automation for IT workflows
Traits to Avoid
  • Only enterprise/large-team IT experience with no scrappy startup background
